Mr. Viktor Ivanovich Patsayev

Born: 19 June 1933 in Aktyubinsk, USSR.

Education: Masters degree from Industrial Institute, radio researcher, design engineer.

Marital Status: Married.

Children: Two.

Experience: Viktor Patsayev was selected on 27 May 1968 as a civilian engineer cosmonaut.  He first served as a backup research engineer of Soyuz 10.

On 6 June 1971 he as launched as flight engineer of Soyuz 11 along with crewmates Georgi Dobrovolsky (commander) and Vladislav Volkov (flight engineer).  They became the first crew of the world's first space station, Salyut 1.  After a 23 day mission the crew was killed during preparations for re-entry.
